Mohammad Hatem, the managing director of MB Knit Fashion Ltd, has replaced AKM Salim Osman as the president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
The decision was announced after a board meeting of the trade body at its Dhaka office on Sunday, according to a statement issued by BKMEA.
Mr Osman resigned from the post of BKMEA president citing physical illness, it added.
BKMEA board also elected Fazlee Shamim Ehsan and MD Shamsuzzaman as executive president and vice president, respectively.
The resignation of Mr Osman, who was also a member of parliament, came a day after the BGMEA board elected its new president replacing SM Mannan Kochi.
The BGMEA board elected Khandoker Rafiqul Islam as the new president at an emergency meeting held at a city hotel on Saturday, after SM Mannan Kochi resigned as its president the same day.
Earlier on August 11, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association also elected Amber Group chairman Shawkat Aziz Russell as its new president, replacing Md Ali Khokon.
Mr Khokon also resigned on personal grounds.
