Due to heavy rainfall and mountain runoff from upstream, a severe flood situation has arisen in at least 11 districts of southeastern and northeastern Bangladesh. Approximately five million people have been affected by this disaster, with hundreds of homes and agricultural lands submerged, disrupting normal life and leaving countless families homeless. The marginal and low-income populations of the country have been hit the hardest by this calamity, says a press release.
In response to this crisis, Pubali Bank PLC, as part of its social responsibility, has donated Tk 50 million from its own funds to the Chief Advisor's Relief Fund to aid in the relief and rehabilitation efforts for the flood-affected regions. Mohammad Ali, Managing Director and CEO of Pubali Bank, handed over the donation cheque to Farooq E Azam (Bir Protik), Advisor to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Md. Shahnewaz Khan, Deputy Managing Director, and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, AGM & Public Relations Officer of the bank, were also present.
Additionally, the bank's employees have contributed the equivalent of one day's salary (Tk 10 million) in relief materials, which are being directly distributed to flood-hit areas through the bank's own management.
Mohammad Ali, Managing Director and CEO of Pubali Bank, stated that the bank has always been committed to contributing to the socio-economic development of the country and has played a leading role in humanitarian activities. He affirmed that the bank's support efforts will continue until the flood situation subsides and all necessary steps will be taken to rehabilitate the affected individuals.
