Rajshahi has started exporting mangoes to two European countries, with the first consignment of the Khirsapati mangoes grown through ‘contract farming’.

A total of two tonnes of mangoes have been sent in this shipment. Out of this, one tonne of mangoes will go to France and another to London.

Some 1,800kg of Khirsapati mangoes from the orchard of Shofiqul Islam’s Sadi enterprise and 200kg of mangoes from Biddut Hossain, a mango farmer, in Bagha upazila have been sent.

Twenty-two farmers of Bagha upazila have signed an agreement with the exporting company to export safe mangoes abroad, according to local media reports.

Khirshapat mangoes are one of the tastiest and account for 20-25 per cent of the total mangoes produced in Bangladesh every year. This variety is exported to many countries of Europe and the Middle East every year.
