A commercial vessel carrying molasses (chitagur) imported for the first time from Pakistan has arrived at Mongla Port.

The Panama-flagged ship, MT Dolphin-19, docked at Jetty-8 of the port around 2:30 pm on Thursday, said Mongla Port Public Relations Deputy Director M Makruzzaman.

Unloading of the molasses commenced in the afternoon, he added.

“This marks the first time in Mongla Port’s history that a commercial ship has arrived with molasses from Pakistan. The port authorities gave the ship a warm welcome upon its arrival at the jetty,” said Makruzzaman.

The vessel departed from Karachi Port in Pakistan on January 22, carrying goods destined for Mongla Port. The unloading process is expected to take two to three days to complete.

Parts of the molasses will be stored at United Refinery and Bulk Storage Limited in Mongla. The rest will be transported by rail to Baghabari in Sirajganj district, Rajshahi Division, and distributed to various feed companies across the country, said the port official.
