The Dhaka University (DU) administration voiced concern on Friday over the murder at Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, which occurred on Wednesday night.
Law enforcement, assisted by the university's Proctorial Team, has arrested six out of eight suspects named by an investigation committee.
The university said that it would take swift administrative action against those involved.
In a press release, DU said it moved quickly to address the situation.
"Within 24 hours, by 8 am Thursday, the hall administration formed an investigation committee, which submitted its report by 11 pm the same day," the statement read.
The university urged collective efforts to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
