Stakeholders Sunday at a conclave stressed for the digitalised integrated value chain, lower interest rates for a rational essentials' prices.
The policy conclave titled 'Reasonable Prices of Food Products: Exploring Strategies for Market Supervision' was held today at a city hotel, organised by Banik Barta.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including traders, consumers, and government policymakers, to discuss strategies for ensuring fair pricing of food products in Bangladesh.
The conclave was moderated by Dewan Hanif Mahmud, Editor of Banik Barta, with a keynote address delivered by Dr. Khandaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD).
CPD paper advocates for an integrated as well as digitalised value chain for rational pricing of essentials.
The discussions revolved around critical issues affecting food pricing, market regulation, and consumer rights.
Commerce adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan put emphasis on the government’s commitment to addressing market challenges.
Other notable attendees included Prof Anu Muhammad and add secretary of the commerce Md Abdur Rahim Khan.
The panel discussion featured a range of experts and government representatives such as AHM Ahsan, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Competition Commission; Dr Mainul Khan, Chairman of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission; and Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Right Protection(DNCRP).
Participants also included Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, Islami Bank Chairman Obayed Ullah Al Masud, representatives from TK Group, City Group, ACI, Pran, Meghna and others.
They discuss on domestic finance and collaboration between financial institutions and food industry stakeholders.
Retail market perspectives were shared by Sabbir Hasan Nasir, Managing Director of ACI Logistics Limited while Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leaders Umama Fatema and Sarjis Alam also spoke.
