The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a status quo till January 16 in 2024 upon the proceedings of the 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Bank.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Managing Director of the bank.
The Chamber Judge at the same time sent the matter to the regular Appellate Division bench for detail hearing on the matter on the same day.
The virtual AGM which was scheduled to be held on December 21 next cannot take place following the SC order, said lawyer Ahsanul Karim who appeared in the court proceedings on behalf of the bank’s MD.
Earlier on December 18, following a petition filed by a Director of the bank, Parveen Haque Sikder, the Company bench of the High Court division stayed the proceedings of the 40th AGM of the bank. Then the MD of the bank filed a petition against the High Court order.
Lawyers Ahsanul Karim and Tanjib-ul Alam appeared on behalf of the Bank MD, while lawyers Md Momtazuddin Fakir and others represented Director Parveen Haque Sikder.
The Board of Directors of the bank on October 3 this year decided to hold the 40th AGM of the bank on December 21.
