The Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association has decided to extend the 50 per cent discount on bus fares for students to seven days a week.

A statement signed by Saiful Alam, general secretary of the association, announced the decision.

The association also decided to extend the half-fare facility for students from 6am to 12am for seven days a week from September 24. Earlier, the half-fare was applicable for students five days a week.

To enjoy the facility, students must wear uniforms or carry their student identity cards, bdnews24.com reports.

The association had a meeting with the representatives of the Nirapad Sarak Andolon on August 21 and made the decision as per their request, the press statement said.

According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority notice, students are entitled to pay half-fare five days a week except Friday and Saturday. The BRTA decision is currently in place until the new order takes effect.

Saiful Alam also announced the decision at a seminar on Monday in the city.

“The decision is applicable only in the metro areas,” he said.
