State-run Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) on Wednesday snapped an illegal natural gas connection to a factory in Keraniganj, the home area of former state minister for power Nasrul Hamid.
The TGTDL officials discovered two separate piped natural gas connections -- one legal and another illegal -- to the factory located at Mirerbag Bazar Road of Iquria at Keraniganj, owned by one Akbar Mollah.
Both connections were severed, according to a senior TGTDCL official.
The industry was illegally siphoning off 2,041 cubic metres of natural gas worth Tk 61,232 daily. The gas from the illegal connection was being used to operate a 1.5-ton boiler and four dryers, each with a capacity of 200 cubic feet.
