As part of the ongoing campaign against illegal gas connections and pipelines, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Limited disconnected 7,004 illegal connections and removed 40 40-kilometre illegal pipelines under its jurisdiction.
“During the last two months drive, we have disconnected 7,004 connections and removed 40-kilometre gas pipeline, installed illegally to supply gas from the main pipeline,” Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Limited Shahnewaz Parvez told BSS in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He said the Titas has been conducting a campaign against all sorts of illegal connections and illegal pipelines, installed to supply gas, under its jurisdictions aimed at ensuring smooth supply of gas to its clients.
The managing director said that the Titas will continue the campaign against illegal gas connections and illegal gas pipelines.
According to Titas sources, the drive has been conducted in Keraniganj, Kamrangirchar, Fatulla, Chashara, Siddhirganj, Araihazar, Narayanganj, Savar, Kaliakoir, Chandra, Joydebpur, Gazipur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Gulshan, Ashulia, Bhaluka, Mymensingh and Meghnag ghat areas.
The drive is being carried through executive magistrates along with company employees, it said.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company disconnected 97 illegal industrial gas connections, 56 commercial connections and 6851 residential ones. Through such gas connections, a total of 19569 burners consumed gas illegally, the sources said.
Earlier, Petrobangla disconnected a total of 2,06,650 illegal gas connections and removed 443.64 kilometer illegal pipelines across the country during the last financial year.
The drive against illegal gas connections was conducted from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, Chairman of Petrobangla Zanendra Nath Sarkar said.
He said a total of 55 teams led by magistrates and gas company officials conducted the drive, adding, “Drive against the illegal consumers saved around 25 million cubic meter gas worth about Taka 1.41 crore.”
Besides, Titas in a drive to cut 5,294 connections of residential, commercial and industrial categories and removed 29 km of illegal pipeline from September 8, 2024, to October 22, 2024, saving 41,37,053 cubic feet of gas worth over Taka 20 lakh every day, said Titas MD Shahnawaz Parvez.
