UCEP making outstanding contribution in creating skilled human resources: Speaker

Lauding UCEP Bangladesh for its outstanding contribution to the expansion of technical education since 1972, the speaker of National Parliament, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Wednesday hoped that the organisation would continue developing skilled human resources in the coming days to fulfil the dream of 'Shonar Bangla'.

Speaking as the chief guest during an event, organised by UCEP Bangladesh to mark ‘UCEP Day 2021’ and the birth anniversary of its founder Mr Lindsay Allan Cheyne, Dr Shirin said various activities of UCEP would help in achieving the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

She thanked UCEP for initiating trainings on professional skills, entrepreneurship development and courses to address Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and ICT, said a media release received today (Thursday).

State Minister of Social Welfare Ministry Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, who attended the event as a special guest, said there is no alternative to technical and vocational education and training to turn the country's huge workforce into skilled human resources.

“UCEP Bangladesh is playing an exceptional role among the NGOs in the expansion of technical education in Bangladesh”, said Md Aminul Islam Khan, Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Department, Ministry of Education.

Md Ehsan-E-Elahi, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, said UCEP has the scope to collaborate with the labour ministry as it works to create a skilled workforce through the expansion of employment-oriented education.

The Chairperson of UCEP Bangladesh, Ms Parveen Mahmud, in her speech, said UCEP has been working relentlessly to enlighten the lives of underprivileged children of Bangladesh with education and life skills.

She also acknowledged the support of the government and showed her gratitude to its founder Mr Cheyne, the release added.

The event featured a special section where UCEP’s late Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons were given posthumous honours for their extraordinary contributions in shaping up UCEP Bangladesh.

The event ended with a captivating cultural programme performed by the students of UCEP Bangladesh.
