USTC hosts seminar on sustainable business, technology development for Smart Bangladesh

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 04: The first international seminar on "Sustainable Business and Technology Development For Smart Bangladesh" (ISSBT 2023) was held at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) on Saturday at the initiative of the Faculty of Business Administration.

USTC Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Soleiman was present at the seminar as the chief guest.

Prof Dr Md Selim Uddin, Chairman of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation and Union Bank and also a professor of accounting in Chittagong University, was the keynote speaker while Prof Dr Aysmontas Bronyus of Moscow State University, Russia, was present as international speaker.

Prof Dr Md Selim Uddin said sustainable business is a modern, dynamic, strategic, total society, all-inclusive, and holistic approach to doing business that considers the needs of both current and future generations. It balances economic growth, environmental protection, and social progress.

Sustainable business, as green or eco-friendly business, must operate to minimise negative environmental and social impacts while maximising positive contributions to the planet and society, he added.

Prof Selim said the integration of sustainable business practices with technology can lead to a 'Smart Bangladesh' characterised by a shared vision of economic growth, social development, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation.

Collaboration among the government, private sector, civil society, and international partners is essential to realise the vision and ensure that the benefits of technology are accessible to all segments of society, he pointed out.

He underscored the need to address challenges such as digital literacy, cybersecurity, and equitable access to technology to ensure that the benefits of technology reach all segments of society.

Dean of the Faculty of Business of USTC Mohammad Sahabuddin presided over the seminar while Pro-VC of USTC Prof Nurul Absar, Registrar Dilip Barua, Managing Director of Island Securities Mohammad Mohiuddin, Vice President of Al Arafa Islami Bank Mohammad Azam, Vice President of Exim Bank Mohammad Jahangir Alam were present as special guests.

More than 50 delegates from Islami Bank Bangladesh, Union Bank, Exim Bank, South East Bank, Rupali Bank, Janata Bank, BSRM, GPH, SA Group, Midas, Chittagong Stock Exchange, Padma Oil and leading public and private institutions participated in the seminar.
