IRREGULARITIES have become a regular phenomenon in our daily life. It is difficult to imagine an individual or an organization that has proper respect for law or system. There are specific laws in the country to bring an act of irregularity to justice and award punishment according to gravity of the offence committed. Many people in our society are unwilling to show minimum respect for the existing system and violate the same according to their whims and caprices. This is where the question of governance comes in. If the government by both persuasion in the form of awareness drives and strict application of laws of the land sets example by punishing the violators, incidents of violation will come down sharply. The government must come down strongly on irregularities being committed in our society. The situation is the same almost everywhere. Everywhere there are people who ignore system and indulge in dishonest practices. Corruption and irregularities are rampant almost in every sector including banks, financial institutions, service organizations and non-government private organizations. The scenario is more or less the same in all the developing countries. Public service-oriented organizations are day by day squeezing their activities because of irregularities. Common people are suffering on one hand and a group of self-seeking individuals are making fortunes for themselves, on the other. In our society we see that students wait for question papers to be leaked at night before the examination. Hundreds of examples may be cited that reflect the irregularities in society. We must rise to the occasion and eliminate irregularities and make our country a better place to live. Mohammed Jashim Uddin
