Recalling those good old days

To my late parents enjoyment was sharing. I remember that in nineteen seventy four we were living in a government house on the Aurangazeb Road just opposite the Ganabhaban. My late father Ali Aksad participated in a TV exclusive interview and received around Tk 200. We all were so delighted. To celebrate with friends and relatives my parents immediately threw a lavish dinner party. Khashi or goats were bought for Biriyani as was the tradition those days. A cook was hired for the cooking in the garden. Many guests gave some presents and flowers, though their presence on the occasion was the best gift. My father's cousin Mansur Chacha and his newly-wed wife Baby Chachi gave six sets of soup plates. Mansur uncle later moved to Pakistan with his Pakistani in-laws. His elder brother Mamtaz Chacha lives in Gadi village of West Bengal. So we had our family heritage spread all over the continent.

About the plates, I like the simplicity of the old pattern and design. Still we have these two plates in my house. Like every prized possession in a home museum we still have our good old love for these plates like our parents' cots, father's writing table where he used to sit in the 'Proshongo' office. The 'Proshongo' was a very prestigious political publication edited by my father Ali Aksad. Now I am planning to hand over some of my father's used accessories like pipe, glasses, pen to the Communist Party so that the people can see those and remember the communist leader.
