Regional connectivity

Published :

Updated :

MEDIA reports that the World Bank intends to finance regional connectivity linking four countries on the eastern part of the South Asian subcontinent. In spite of repeated criticism of the one-sided proposal and biased support from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, we find the government may accept such a plan that does not accommodate direct land connectivity between Bangladesh and Nepal along the shortest possible distance.
We shall hope that the relevant authorities will ensure its inclusion and will not succumb to pressures for a proposal that isolates many parts of its territory from the connectivity route.
