AS a citizen of this country, I was glad to know that the Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of the High Court about curtailing arbitrary power concerning arrest, detention in custody and remand of the accused by law enforcing agency members.
The old law has been widely misused by the law enforcing agency members. It is a historic verdict and it will protect the citizens' rights.
Number of incidents of death in Police custody is rising with every passing day. We must do every thing possible to bring it down and ensure the rights of the citizens.
In 2013 the number of custodial deaths was 60. Political interference is the main obstacle for maintaining law and order situation.
The members of the police force also need proper training so that they can use the law properly and do not override it. Without improving law and order situation and ensuring the rights of the citizens, we cannot expect sustainable development in our country.
