Watching television

TELEVISION is an amazing gift of technology. It was invented in the last century and instantly won over the hearts of millions around the world overnight. Television gives us information and entertainment and has opened up for us a combined source of news and pleasure termed 'infotainment' by media specialists. While Television provides knowledge and pleasure for people of all ages and walks of life, it can also be unhelpful and even damaging for people who spend excessive time on it. Watching TV for long hours cuts our sleeping time which is detrimental to our health. In addition, it affects our eyesight. It is even worse for children if they are allowed to watch TV for a long time. They lose interest in studies and cut a sorry figure in their exams. If the parents or elders living under the same roof have a habit of watching TV for long hours, it will have a negative effect on children. Watching TV for long hours also reduces our productivity in our work.
Many parents are seen to ask their children to watch TV just to avoid interaction with them. We all know that kids who play outdoor and read book spend less time in front of TV and they are more active and productive. Our minds are more stimulated when we read books or do some physical activities. We must be careful about allowing our children as well as ourselves to watch TV and bear in mind the truth that too much of everything is bad.
