A British passenger has miraculously survived a plane crash in India that killed hundreds.

The passenger, named as British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was in India for a few days to visit his family and was going back to the UK along with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh.

242 passengers were on board the Air India jet, including 53 Brits, when it crashed shortly after taking off from the airport in Ahmedabad.

Mr Ramesh told the Hindustan Times: "Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly."

He also said he had sustained "impact injuries" on his chest, eyes and feet. The 40-year-old was reportedly sat in seat 11A of the doomed flight.
