The Indian government is set to roll out satellite-based Global Positioning System (GPS) toll collection systems on national highways, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) reported Wednesday.

Federal Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari told the upper house of the Indian parliament that the new toll collection system will be implemented before the parliament election this year, reports Xinhua citing the AIR.

"Under the new system, the toll will be deducted from the bank accounts directly with the identification of the vehicle number plate," the minister was quoted as saying.

Gadkari further said the new toll collection system will help in removing the existing toll plazas and ease travel on the national highways.
