A H M Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, emphasised the crucial role of technical education in preparing young people with practical skills and fostering entrepreneurship.

He noted that technical education not only equips individuals with hands-on knowledge but also opens up significant opportunities for self-employment.

Secretary Shafiquzzaman said, “Technical education equips individuals with practical skills and unlocks considerable opportunities for entrepreneurship. This allows young people to generate their own employment rather than depending solely on the job market”.

He was speaking at a launching event titled “The Leveraging youth employment in Bangladesh through improving their employability and competitiveness to fit with the 21st century job market (LIFT)” held at a city hotel on Sunday.

Educo Bangladesh, in partnership with Child Fund Korea (CFK) and co-implementer ESDO, organised the function.

Speaking at the function, Shafiquzzaman also highlighted the government’s focus on providing comprehensive training programmes aimed at empowering the youth to become skilled professionals both in international markets and within Bangladesh.

“Our goal is to provide training that enables them to establish themselves as skilled professionals abroad, while also fostering their potential to grow as entrepreneurs within the country,” he added.

As the special guest of this event, Mina Masud Uzzaman, Member (Planning & Skills Standard), National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), Engr Md Salah Uddin, Director (Training operation) of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), also delivered their speech.

Educo Bangladesh’s Country Director, Abdul Hamid, chaired the event.
