As the world faces challenges that call for fresh perspectives and innovative solutions, the Southeast Debate Club (SEUDC) presents its SEUDC Nationals debate competition 2024: Voice for Resurrection. This event, scheduled for October 18-19, 2024, promises to be an inspiring platform for debaters to engage in discussions that matter—be it social issues, constitution, or policy-making.
Inter Club National Debate competitions like Voice for Resurrection serve as a unique platform for students to hone their critical thinking and public speaking skills. With topics centred around real-world issues, participants are not only tested on their knowledge but also on their ability to reason, argue, and collaborate effectively. SEUDC’s Vice President emphasised, "This year’s event is designed to push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and encourage participants to think beyond the ordinary."
Around 48 universities, colleges & schools will take part in the competition, facilitating a healthy exchange of ideas and viewpoints. Through rigorous rounds of debating, these young minds will engage in intellectual battles on issues that range from socio-political topics to global & national crises, contributing to the creation of thoughtful leaders for tomorrow.
Debaters in Voice for Resurrection will sharpen essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution. Debating requires research, collaboration, and clear communication—traits that are critical not just for professional success, but also for addressing the multifaceted challenges facing our world today. Moderator of SEUDC said, “May the invincible voice rise when required and may charity and purpose enhance their oratorical and leadership skills”.
The competition will be judged by experienced and renowned debaters across the country from different universities. These judges will also provide valuable feedback to participants and help them grow in their debating journey.
As the title suggests, Voice for Resurrection aims to revive critical discussions around key issues that have faded into the background. This year, the SEUDC is focusing on the idea of resurrecting not only voices but also values and policies that are crucial for a progressive society. Whether it's the constitution, social justice, national crises or the future of Bangladesh 2.0, participants will bring these issues back into the limelight.
The competition will follow the British Parliamentary Debate format, with each team consisting of two members. Preliminary rounds will take place on the first day, and the finalists will battle it out on the second. Prizes will be awarded for the best team, best speaker, and runner-ups, ensuring recognition for both individual and team excellence. Moreover, schools and colleges will get prizes differently as well.
SEUDC has a long-standing history of organising debate events that encourage students to think critically, communicate effectively, and stand up for what they believe in. This year’s Voice for Resurrection promises to be yet another milestone in continuing this tradition, fostering a new generation of articulate, informed, and passionate leaders.
With debate being more than just an academic exercise, SEUDC's event is a reminder that the future belongs to those who have the courage to raise their voices for change.
